I had to deal with mind bullies recently. In fact, in my job I have to deal with them quite often. It's a terrible thing. I strongly suggest you keep a close guard to keep the mind bullies at bay. I'm talking about negative thoughts.
We all have our off days when we aren't as cheerful as we'd like to be. It's part of life. Those are typically the days when the mind bullies are at their best. They push and shove our positive thoughts around. Even scare them away for good.
Mind bullies multiply like rabbits and if you don't stop them, they invade every corner of your brain. Before you know it, they make their way to your tongue and you start saying negative things. If left unchecked, they will creep into your actions and you start doing negative things.
When you reach that point, it's hard to even find a positive thought in your mind, let alone chase the mind bullies out. But it can be done.
Focus on your own inner monologue and pay attention to your self-talk. If you detect a mind bully, banish him immediately.
Introduce more positive thoughts into your mind - remember, majority rules. Let your army of positive thoughts fight the mind bullies.
“Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I
believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing
it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do
it even if I didn't have it in the beginning.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
Take responsibility for your thoughts - they're your thoughts, after all. It takes a little practice but once you form the habit to post mind bully guards at the gates, your positive thoughts can roam free.
These wise words from Lao Tsu sum it beautifully:
“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
